Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian and Dutch governments are strengthening cooperation in higher education, science, and technology through the Week of Indonesia-Netherlands Education and Research (WINNER) 2026.

WINNER 2026, held from October 6 to 8, 2026, in Indonesia and the Netherlands, features activities at three locations: the Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology in Jakarta, Trisakti University in Jakarta, and Indonesia House in Amsterdam.

Minister of Higher Education, Science, and Technology Brian Yuliarto, speaking at the event on Tuesday (Oct. 6), encouraged efforts to translate knowledge, research, and innovation into practical solutions that deliver meaningful benefits to society.

“We can strengthen collaboration among universities, expand opportunities for students and researchers, and develop joint research and innovation to address various challenges facing our societies,” Yuliarto said in a statement received in Jakarta on Wednesday.

He expressed hope that WINNER 2026 would open up new opportunities, generate new ideas, and build stronger ties between people and institutions in Indonesia and the Netherlands.

Additionally, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency Arif Satria emphasized that innovation cannot be developed by a single institution but requires synergy among universities, research institutions, the government, industry, and society.

According to Satria, education equips people with knowledge, skills, creativity, and adaptability to respond to change. Research enables people to understand increasingly complex challenges and provides the evidence needed to address them.

“Innovation enables knowledge to move beyond universities and laboratories into solutions, technologies, services, and policies that create tangible value for society. Innovation increasingly emerges when knowledge, research, entrepreneurship, policy, and society are connected,” Satria said.

Dutch Minister of Education, Culture, and Science Rianne Letschert said the two countries have various opportunities to cooperate in addressing challenges facing both nations.

Letschert said that through its national talent strategy, the Netherlands is investing in building knowledge.

The minister said the Netherlands believes in the importance of connecting education with the world of work and recognizes the importance of looking beyond its borders. Knowledge, Letschert said, becomes increasingly valuable when it is shared, and WINNER is a good example of this.
