Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Minister of Investment and Downstreaming Rosan Perkasa Roeslani expressed optimism that the strategic partnership between Indonesia and Singapore will strengthen the long-term competitiveness and resilience of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Speaking at the Singapore National Day Reception in Jakarta on Wednesday (August 19), Roeslani emphasized that Singapore is more than just a neighboring country, describing the two nations as “kindred brethren” that share deep geographical, historical, and cultural ties.

He noted that Singapore has long been a strategic partner for Indonesia and has consistently remained the country’s largest source of foreign direct investment (FDI), with investments spanning sectors ranging from financial services to human capital development.

“Together, we can create a partnership that is not only mutually beneficial, but also contributes to ASEAN’s long-term competitiveness and resilience,” Roeslani said, as quoted in a statement released by the Embassy of the Republic of Singapore in Jakarta on Thursday.

Furthermore, he highlighted that the global economy is entering a new era shaped by supply chain resilience, energy security, technological innovation, and sustainable growth. Amid these dynamic shifts, Indonesia and Singapore are natural partners, he noted.

“Indonesia offers vast opportunities in industrial development, downstream processing, renewable energy, digital infrastructure, and the future AI economy. Singapore brings world-class expertise in finance, technology, innovation, and international connectivity,” Roeslani said.

Looking ahead, the minister expressed hope that the bilateral partnership would grow even stronger as the two countries prepare to commemorate 60 years of diplomatic relations next year.

“With trust, mutual respect, and a shared vision for the future, our countries will continue to grow, innovate, and prosper together,” he added.

Concluding his address, Roeslani, who also serves as CEO of Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund, Danantara Indonesia, conveyed congratulations on behalf of the Indonesian government and people on Singapore’s 61st National Day.

“May Singapore continue to thrive. May the friendship between Indonesia and Singapore continue to flourish. And may our partnership continue to deliver greater prosperity for our peoples. Happy National Day, Singapore!” he said.
