Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Foreign Ministry is preparing several scenarios for President Prabowo Subianto’s possible attendance at the United Nations General Assembly in New York later this month.
“We are preparing various scenarios, while preparations on substance are continuing and being further refined,” Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Vahd Nabyl A. Mulachela said at the ministry’s office in Jakarta on Thursday.
Nabyl said the government was continuing to refine preparations for the substance Indonesia would present at the annual forum.
“We are also conducting various rehearsals to prepare the substance,” he added.
Nabyl, however, declined to confirm whether Prabowo would attend this year’s General Assembly.
“Regarding confirmation of the level of attendance, we will make an official announcement in the near future,” he said.
On the issues Indonesia will raise at this year’s General Assembly, Nabyl said the government would first consider the forum’s overarching theme.
The government would also consider developments over the past year in determining which issues to highlight at the meeting.
“UNGA is an annual event typically used to review developments over the past year, including progress made and new developments. Those are the issues we will highlight at the meeting,” he said.
The 81st UN General Assembly session opened in New York on Tuesday. Bangladesh Foreign Minister Khalilur Rahman was elected president, succeeding former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
The session’s theme is “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.” The General Debate is scheduled for September 22-26 and September 28.
