Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has proposed strengthening ASEAN guidelines on inclusive employment by adding indicators to measure workplace inclusivity across Southeast Asia, the Ministry of Manpower said Wednesday.
Director General of Industrial Relations and Social Security at the Ministry of Manpower Indah Anggoro Putri said Indonesia viewed the “Guideline to Promote Inclusive Employment for Persons with Disabilities” as an important instrument for putting inclusive employment principles into practice.
“The guideline is important to ensure that the principles of inclusive employment are implemented in practice and benefit diverse groups of workers,” Indah said in an official statement received in Jakarta.
Indah welcomed a Vietnam-Japan project focused on implementing the guideline, including efforts to identify barriers to employment, strengthen reasonable accommodation, and improve workplace accessibility for diverse groups of workers.
She said the guideline could be strengthened with indicators enabling employers to assess inclusivity across employment practices, including recruitment, career development, retention and worker participation.
“The guideline should also consider a tripartite cooperation mechanism so that governments, employers and workers’ organizations can play a role in monitoring the implementation of inclusive employment practices,” she said.
Indah said the guideline could serve as a common reference for ASEAN members seeking to build an inclusive and resilient labor market amid changes in the world of work.
“Indonesia is ready to contribute and further strengthen this cooperation in the spirit of mutual learning, ASEAN solidarity, and South-South and Triangular Cooperation (SSTC),” she said.
