Bekasi (ANTARA) – The Manpower Ministry allocated Rp1.7 trillion (US$96 million) to train hundreds of thousands of workers for green jobs, supporting Indonesia’s transition to green industries through human resource development.
At the World Ozone Day event in Bekasi, West Java, on Wednesday, Minister Yassierli explained that the budget is intended to fund job training courses for 270,000 residents this year, with a focus on skills relevant to jobs that contribute to environmental sustainability.
He said it is increasingly crucial for corporations to raise awareness of environmental sustainability, underlining responsible practices in energy use, waste management, and raw material sourcing for export commodities.
“In response to this massive shift, the Manpower Ministry stresses its commitment to not letting domestic industries and workers be left behind,” he remarked.
Yassierli emphasized that Indonesia has huge potential to develop green jobs, noting that thousands of employment opportunities were created through recent waste management and sorting programs involving several ministries.
In light of the opportunity, he said the ministry had quickly taken concrete steps, including improving certification schemes by adapting work competency standards to emerging needs in green industries.
The minister also mentioned measures to ensure that all job training centers nationwide are equipped with proper infrastructure, facilities, tools, and equipment.
He added that the ministry is collaborating with the National Professional Certification Agency (BNSP) to map certification institutes and strengthen their capacity to assess the quality of Indonesia’s human resources for green jobs.
Furthermore, Yassierli urged leaders of vocational training centers across the country to immediately adjust their training schemes.
He expressed optimism that an adequate budget, upgraded vocational training facilities, and stronger certification regulations would help the Indonesian workforce enter the global green job market.
