Indonesia ready to expand support for global food needs: Prabowo

Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto expressed readiness to enhance Indonesia’s contribution to global food security as it strengthens its national food production capacity.

He conveyed this statement during the BRICS Summit at Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi, India.

“For years, Indonesia was a major importer of grains, rice, and corn. Now, we have become an exporter and will be able to increase our support for the rest of the world,” he said as quoted from an official statement on Sunday.

He views this transformation as evidence of the potential to overcome limitations through the development and strengthening of national capabilities.

Prabowo believes that BRICS nations possess similar potential if their individual strengths can be integrated and jointly optimized.

He noted that interconnected global challenges should not be regarded merely as obstacles but as opportunities for greater cooperation.

“Together, we can turn these interconnected challenges into opportunities for greater investment, stronger industries, and more jobs for our people. Growth that reaches millions of our citizens will make our nations more resilient,” the head of state pointed out.

He stated that a nation’s resilience is linked to the extent to which economic growth is felt by the broader public.

Therefore, inclusive development and innovation are crucial elements in enhancing collective capacity, he emphasized.

In the context of BRICS, Prabowo said that member nations possess complementary resources, production capacities, and economic strengths for greater added value.

“BRICS already constitutes a supply chain. We are responsible to connect and optimize these existing strengths as a source of greater value,” he noted.

Prabowo then proposed joint industrialization as a concrete step toward optimizing the resources and capacities of BRICS member nations.

“Therefore, allow me to propose something concrete. Let us pursue joint industrialization and optimize the resources and capacities we share,” he said.
