Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia won its first Asian Games archery gold after Nurisa Dian Ashrifah defeated the Philippines’ Amaya Amparo Cojuangco 139-137 in the women’s individual compound final Thursday.
Her victory gave Indonesia its fifth gold medal at the 2026 Asian Games, following wins in badminton, weightlifting and women’s speed climbing.
Nurisa narrowly beat Cojuangco at the Okazaki Chuo Sogo Park Multipurpose Hall in Aichi, Japan, according to the Asian Games organizers.
The victory marked Indonesia’s first archery gold in Asian Games history. Its previous best results were silver medals in team and individual recurve events.
Tatang Budiman, Donald Pandiangan and Suradi Rukimin won the men’s recurve team silver at the 1982 Asian Games.
Danahuri Dahliana, Rusena Gelanteh and Purnama Pandiangan won women’s recurve team silver in 1994, while Diananda Choirunisa took individual recurve silver in 2018.
Nurisa remained composed under pressure in the final and sealed victory with a 10-point shot in the decisive end.
Indonesia still has opportunities for more gold medals, including the MLBB esports final against Myanmar and the men’s speed climbing event.
Veddriq Leonardo, the 2024 Olympic champion, and Asian Games record holder Aditya Sri Syahrial are representing Indonesia in men’s speed climbing.
President Prabowo Subianto has pledged Rp3 billion, or about US$168,000, for each individual gold medalist at the Asian Games, while bonuses for team events remain under consideration.
