Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Home Affairs Minister and National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Head Tito Karnavian urged neighboring countries to resolve border issues through peaceful and friendly communication.
“If there are problems or issues concerning borders, do not hesitate to contact me so we can resolve them peacefully and amicably,” Tito told reporters after meeting neighboring countries’ representatives in Jakarta on Wednesday.
Tito also invited the 10 countries sharing borders with Indonesia to hold regular meetings to discuss emerging border-related problems and issues.
They are Timor-Leste, Australia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Papua New Guinea, Thailand, Vietnam, India, and Palau.
The meetings also discussed BNPP’s role and programs planned for border regions, Tito said.
The programs include efforts to resolve issues that could potentially develop into disputes or conflicts in border areas, he said.
“This includes resolving issues that could become controversies or disputes and finding ways to develop Indonesia’s border regions jointly for the benefit of communities on both sides,” he said.
Indonesia consistently prioritizes good relations with these countries, including through trade and cultural cooperation, he said.
Representatives of neighboring countries also expressed their willingness to strengthen relations with Indonesia, including through trade and cultural cooperation, Tito said.
