Jakarta (ANTARA) – Home Affairs Minister and Head of the National Border Management Agency (BNPP) Tito Karnavian has encouraged the development of border areas through trade and cultural cooperation that benefits people in Indonesia and neighboring countries.
Speaking after the Indonesia Border Partnership Coffee Morning at the BNPP Office in Jakarta on Wednesday, Tito said cooperation in border areas should be strengthened by taking into account the interests of communities in both countries.
“We want to develop relations between Indonesia, particularly in border areas, for the common benefit of communities in both countries,” he said.
According to Tito, such cooperation can be developed in various fields, including trade and culture.
“I am very pleased that everyone is also willing to develop good relations, whether in trade, culture, or other areas, for the benefit of our communities and the countries involved along the border,” he said.
The Indonesia Border Partnership Coffee Morning brought together ambassadors and diplomatic representatives of countries sharing land or maritime borders with Indonesia.
The forum, themed “Strengthening Cooperation in Managing Our Border to Promote Prosperity,” also discussed the role of the BNPP, development programs for border areas, as well as various issues related to border management and relations between countries.
Tito said the BNPP has functions and responsibilities in developing border areas in cooperation with Indonesia’s neighboring countries.
According to him, such cooperation is part of efforts to develop border areas while maintaining good relations with neighboring countries.
Indonesia shares land borders with Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, and Timor-Leste.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s maritime boundaries adjoin those of Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste, Singapore, Australia, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, India, and Palau.
According to Tito, representatives of the countries attending the meeting demonstrated their willingness to continue developing relations and cooperation with Indonesia.
