Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s soft tennis squad is targeting two silver medals through seven athletes competing at the upcoming 2026 Asian Games in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, team officials announced on Tuesday.
Speaking to reporters in Jakarta, national team manager Qamariah Ferly Montolalu cited powerhouse regional competitors as the primary reason for setting measured expectations ahead of the Sept. 19 to Oct. 4 multi-sport event.
“Looking at the balance of power, it is quite tough for us. So a realistic goal for us is silver medals,” Montolalu said.
The Indonesian Soft Tennis Association (PP Pesti) will field five men and two women across five events: men’s singles, women’s singles, men’s team, women’s team, and mixed doubles.
Montolalu noted that the team’s best prospects for reaching the podium lie in the men’s team, mixed doubles, and women’s singles categories.

Indonesia faces formidable Asian competition, particularly from dominant powerhouses South Korea, Japan, and Chinese Taipei.
The nation previously claimed one silver and two bronze medals at the 2018 Jakarta-Palembang Games, followed by a single bronze in the women’s team event at the Hangzhou Games.
The seven-athlete roster includes Tio Juliandi Hutauruk, Fernando Sanger, Bagus Angga Boedy Pradewa, Rizky Zammy Febrian Laluyan, Muhammad Reza Falevi, Siti Nur Arasy, and Alif Nafiiah.
The squad has been in national training camp since March 2026, which included international exposure trips to South Korea.
While management has set a silver benchmark, national coach Gularso Mulyadi expressed quiet optimism that a surprise gold remains possible.
Mulyadi stated that athlete preparations have reached 80 percent, with final training focused on perfecting shot accuracy before departing for Japan.
