Indonesia speeds NTT’s infrastructure recovery after M7.7 quake

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo said his ministry is ready to support emergency response and infrastructure recovery for communities affected by the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT).

“When roads are cut off, water services stop, schools become unusable or people lose homes, the state must act to restore their lives,” Dody said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Public Works Ministry has reopened roads, restored water supplies, prepared housing and helped repair schools so communities can rebuild their lives, he said.

The efforts follow four directives from President Prabowo Subianto, uphold the 1945 Constitution, protect national interests, swiftly address people’s hardships and serve current and future generations.

“For us, the measure is simple: Has our work truly made people’s lives easier? Our job ends when water actually reaches the fields,” Dody said.

Infrastructure recovery following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara Province is being accelerated, with Dody visiting Nagekeo District to assess conditions and ensure rapid repairs.

He met residents at evacuation centers and inspected several buildings damaged by the earthquake.

Dody also coordinated with Nagekeo District Head Simplisius Donatus and his deputy, Gratianus Muga Sada, as well as representatives from the disaster agency, Nagekeo military district and search-and-rescue agency.

The coordination aims to speed damage assessments and repairs to affected infrastructure, the ministry said.

The 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck Flores island damaged roads and bridges. The ministry’s East Nusa Tenggara National Road Implementation Agency deployed personnel and equipment to reopen routes affected by landslides and road damage.
