Jakarta (ANTARA) – President Prabowo Subianto emphasized the importance of Indonesia-Thailand relations, noting that both nations are founding members of ASEAN and play an influential role in shaping developments in Southeast Asia.
“Our relationship greatly influences the situation in Southeast Asia,” he said during a joint statement with Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul at the Merdeka Palace, Jakarta, on Monday (August 3).
Prabowo said the Thai prime minister’s visit to Indonesia is significant, as the two countries are founding members of ASEAN and among the region’s major economic powers.
“We also have large economies,” he added.
Therefore, President Prabowo said Indonesia and Thailand’s status as founding members of ASEAN, along with their economic strength, gives their bilateral relationship considerable influence over developments in Southeast Asia.
He also noted that Anutin’s official visit to Indonesia was the first by a Thai prime minister in 15 years.
According to him, the meeting marked the second Leaders’ Consultation between Indonesia and Thailand after the two countries upgraded their bilateral relationship to a strategic partnership last year.
“This shows that our partnership continues to grow and is oriented toward the future,” Prabowo remarked.
During the meeting, Prabowo and Anutin discussed various bilateral, regional, and global issues, including the two countries’ efforts to strengthen ASEAN’s role amid growing global uncertainty.
As founding members of ASEAN, Prabowo stated that Indonesia and Thailand share the responsibility to maintain peace, stability, and security while creating shared prosperity in the region.
Prabowo also said that both countries would continue promoting practical cooperation through their strategic partnership to address common challenges and contribute to regional resilience.
He added that Indonesia and Thailand would prioritize concrete collaboration that delivers tangible benefits to the people of both countries.
“I am confident that Indonesia and Thailand will continue to ensure that this strategic partnership brings tangible benefits to the prosperity of our people,” Prabowo said.
