Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Higher Education, Science, and Technology will organize the 2026 Indonesian Convention on Science, Technology, and Industry (KSTI) from Nov. 10 to 13, displaying around 500 research products from universities and other institutions.
Addressing the press in Jakarta on Monday, the ministry’s Research and Development Director General Fauzan Adziman said the exhibits were selected from approximately 850 submitted proposals.
He also explained that KSTI would primarily seek to strengthen links between research, innovation, and industry to strengthen the science ecosystem while supporting economic growth and improving public welfare.
“Our top priority is to turn knowledge into impact. To that end, we are formulating policies that address what is needed by society and industry on a scientific ground,” he said.
Carrying the theme “Strategies for Indonesia’s Economic Independence and Welfare,” the convention will be held at Sepuluh Nopember Institute of Technology (ITS) in Surabaya, East Java.
Adziman said the event would build on the outcomes of the previous convention held at the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB), which produced a national research roadmap and agenda involving the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN).
“KSTI is open to all segments of society. While it is primarily intended for academics, it will also feature exhibitions and science and technology-related activities that can be attended by elementary, junior high, and senior high school students,” he added.
He further noted that the upcoming convention would give the public an opportunity to learn about the “results of our research and development efforts from across Indonesia.”
Furthermore, Adziman noted that the convention would bring together technology innovators and feature a range of activities, including robot competitions, a hackathon, panel discussions, business-matching sessions, and innovation tours.
He said the government expects KSTI to produce policy briefs and foresight studies that could help inform policymaking and guide the direction of national research.
The convention will also address several strategic issues, including food sovereignty, energy and water self-sufficiency, healthcare, downstreaming and industrialization, frontier technologies, social sciences and humanities, and disaster resilience.
