Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN), in collaboration with the Finance Ministry, launched a development policy research program called Prima as a strategic effort to promote science-driven policymaking.
BRIN Head Arif Satria noted that Prima was designed as an initiative dedicated to ensuring that all ministries and state agencies strictly base their policies on robust, evidence-based applied research.
“We have decided to carry out 177 research projects this year to contribute to resolving a wide range of challenges faced by ministries,” he remarked, speaking during the launch event in Jakarta on Monday.
Satria emphasized that Prima, supported by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education Agency (LPDP) of the Finance Ministry, is also intended to drive state institutions to align their visions through comprehensive joint research projects.
He added that the implementation of the program would require active participation from multiple institutions, including the National Development Planning Ministry, the National Search and Rescue Agency, and technical ministries.
“God willing, we will succeed in aligning national policies and producing applied research involving institutions across sectors through Prima,” Satria said.
The BRIN chief further underscored that the LPDP would fund the research projects under the program.
LPDP President Director Yon Arsal emphasized that implementing Prima is crucial for Indonesia as the country faces increasingly complex development challenges.
He asserted that the government should move away from an experience-driven policymaking approach to navigate those challenges and produce more relevant public policies.
“This way, we can expect to make sure that every rupiah of the public funds invested is based on accountable risk calculations and impact analyses,” Arsal said.
He welcomed the strong enthusiasm shown by institutions toward the program, which complements the Innovation Research for an Advanced Indonesia funding scheme.
“In Prima, the success of research is not measured solely by scientific publications but also by the feasibility of the resulting recommendations being translated into policies, regulatory revisions, or government programs,” he said.
