Jakarta (ANTARA) – Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi highlighted the need for addressing non-traditional threats to protect people’s interests at the ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on Friday.
“Non-traditional threats, including the energy crisis and food crisis, should not go unheeded amid security challenges because food- and energy-related issues are closely related to people’s interests,” she said, according to a written statement issued by the Foreign Ministry.
Conflict can happen in the region similar to other regions. In addition, tensions in various parts of the world can heighten, strengthening respect for international laws; and third, not ignoring non-traditional challenges in the midst of traditional security-related challenges.
“It is important to continue to address the challenges through cooperation because they are directly related to people’s interests,” the minister added.

At the ARF meeting, ASEAN foreign ministers stressed the urgent need for ARF to continue its role of promoting mutual understanding, mutual trust, and transparency in the region.
The ARF meeting adopted several documents, including the ARF Statement to Promote Peace, Stability, and Prosperity in the Region through Preventive Measures.
