Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia has called for an immediate cessation of violence and urged a return to peaceful diplomacy following a fresh wave of escalation in the Yemen conflict that saw cross-border attacks hit several areas in Saudi Arabia.
In a statement issued by the Foreign Affairs Ministry, Jakarta expressed deep concern over the intensifying hostilities, particularly cross-border strikes launched by the Houthi group on Tuesday (Sept 8).
The attacks targeted multiple locations in Saudi Arabia—including Abha, Khamis Mushait, Jazan, and Najran—causing civilian casualties and damaging local public and economic infrastructure.
“In response to the situation, Indonesia calls on all parties to end the cycle of attacks and retaliatory attacks, and to exercise maximum restraint,” the ministry stated via its official X account on Thursday (September 10).
The Indonesian government emphasized that all warring factions must comply with their obligations under international law, particularly international humanitarian law.
Jakarta underscored that protecting civilian lives and infrastructure, alongside respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional nations, must remain a top priority.
To resolve the protracted crisis, Indonesia reiterated the necessity of prioritizing dialogue and diplomacy. The government encouraged a return to an inclusive political process that is Yemeni-led and Yemeni-owned.
Indonesia views such negotiated diplomatic steps as the only viable path toward achieving a comprehensive and lasting political resolution, while preserving Yemen’s unity, sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
Yemen has been plunged into severe conflict since September 2014, when Houthi forces seized the capital, Sanaa, and several provinces.
The crisis further intensified in March 2015 after a Saudi-led coalition intervened to support the internationally recognized Yemeni government.
