Indonesia wins 39 Asian Games medals, including five golds

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia won 39 medals at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games in Japan, including five golds, exceeding its target of four and placing 16th in the final standings.

The Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games are scheduled to close on Sunday.

Indonesia’s first gold came in the men’s badminton team event, where it beat China 3-2. Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin later won the men’s doubles title over another Chinese pair.

Indonesia’s other three golds came from weightlifting, sport climbing and archery.

Rahmat Erwin Abdullah won the men’s 75-kg weightlifting gold with a 366-kg total, including 160 kg in the snatch and 206 kg in the clean and jerk, breaking world records in both.

Desak Made Rita Kusuma Dewi won the women’s speed climbing gold in 6.062 seconds, edging China’s Li Juan Deng, who finished in 6.064 seconds.

Nurisa Dian Ashrifah claimed Indonesia’s fifth gold in the women’s individual compound archery event, beating the Philippines’ Amaya Amparo Cojuangco 139-137 in a tight final.

The victory also gave Indonesia its first-ever Asian Games gold in archery.

Indonesia also won 11 silver medals in badminton, beach volleyball, esports, padel, rowing, sepak takraw, shooting, surfing and teqball.

The 23 bronze medals came from wushu (five); badminton and sepak takraw (three each); mountain biking and karate (two each); and sprint canoe, BMX, MMA, padel, shooting, soft tennis, teqball and weightlifting (one each).
