Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia won one silver and one bronze medal at the 2026 CMAS Asia Underwater Hockey Championships, held at the Aquatic Center of Hotel Seruni in Puncak, Bogor District, West Java, from August 5 to 8.
According to a press statement received in Jakarta on Sunday, the silver medal was won by Cucut Underwater Hockey Club in the U15 category, while the Indonesian women’s elite team claimed the bronze medal.
“Congratulations on the medals won by the Elite Women’s Team and Cucut UWH Club,” said Secretary General of the Indonesian Underwater Sports Association (PB POSSI), Nur Kholis.
He expressed appreciation to all athletes, officials, CMAS delegates, the organizing committee, volunteers, and other parties involved in the championships. In the U15 final, Cucut Underwater Hockey had to settle for silver after narrowly losing 5-4 to Malaysia A.
The Indonesian women’s elite team finished third to claim the bronze medal. Janis Rosalita and her teammates were unable to overcome the Philippines, losing 11-3.
PB POSSI Chairman Makhruzi Rahman said the results achieved by Indonesian athletes should serve as motivation to continue improving their abilities ahead of future international competitions.
Makhruzi Rahman urged the athletes to remain focused on training and developing their skills so that Indonesian underwater hockey can become increasingly competitive at both the Asian and international levels.
“I hope that hosting an Asian level championship in Indonesia will help raise public awareness of underwater hockey while also encouraging the development of athlete training and development programs,” he said.
The 2026 CMAS Asia Underwater Hockey Championships featured 276 athletes from seven countries: Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, Japan, China, and Indonesia. The regional competition features the men’s elite, women’s elite, U15, and U19 categories.
Indonesia fielded national teams in the men’s and women’s elite categories, while several clubs, including Cucut Underwater Hockey, Bhinneka Stars, and Searia represented the age-group categories.
