Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – Indonesia has added 6,000 schools to its 2026 revitalization program, raising the initial target of 71,744 schools, Primary and Secondary Education Minister Abdul Mu’ti said.
“We’ve received a report that an additional 6,000 schools have been added so far, and that number could still go up,” he said in Denpasar, Bali on Friday.
The increase would push the number of schools revitalized over 2025 and 2026 to more than 90,000, including 16,167 schools revitalized in 2025.
The ministry does not set a funding cap for each school, Mu’ti said, as allocations depend on the extent of damage and actual needs.
This year’s revitalization program prioritizes frontier, underdeveloped and outermost, or 3T, regions, disaster-hit areas and schools with severe damage.
Schools outside those categories can also receive support through formal proposals submitted by local governments, the ministry said.
Data on additional school quotas is collected through a tiered submission process involving regional education offices and updates to the national basic education database.
The government also provides an emergency affirmative channel for schools suffering sudden disasters or severe damage, even if they were not included initially.
Public oversight, including community reports and media coverage, also helps identify schools that urgently need revitalization, the ministry said.
With the expanded quota, the ministry expects to meet its goal of completing school revitalization nationwide by the end of the decade.
“So if the president mentioned that around 100,000 educational units will be renovated by 2027, then by the end of 2028, we will have renovated all schools across Indonesia,” Mu’ti said.
