Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian lawmakers approved Police Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto as the new national police chief on Thursday, succeeding General Listyo Sigit Prabowo following a parliamentary confirmation hearing.
Commission III of the House of Representatives (DPR-RI), which oversees legal affairs, unanimously endorsed President Prabowo Subianto’s nomination following approval from all political party factions, the House Ethics Council, and House leadership.
“Shall we approve this by acclamation?” Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman asked during the hearing, drawing unanimous consent from lawmakers present.
The decision will now proceed directly to a House plenary session for final endorsement.
The confirmation follows an official presidential letter dated September 30, 2026, proposing the leadership change at the top of the National Police.
During the hearing, Suyudi pledged to align police priorities with the administration’s agenda, focusing on legal reform, anti-corruption efforts, counter-narcotics, national security, and human resource development.
He assured lawmakers that the police force would maintain its constitutional mandate without overstepping into the domain of other government bodies.
“The role of the police is to protect development, ensure legal certainty, safeguard the public, prevent disturbances, and handle crimes within their authority,” Suyudi told the panel.
