Indonesian military targets 11,000 public facilities by 2026-end

Bekasi (ANTARA) – The Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) announced its target to build 11,000 vital public facilities and infrastructure, comprising 5,000 bridges and 6,000 safe water access points, nationwide throughout 2026.

“To date, we have built 2,500 bridges at various locations. We are now able to finish construction at between 50 and 100 locations on a daily basis,” Army Chief of Staff General Maruli Simanjuntak remarked in Bekasi District, West Java, on Thursday.

During the inauguration of the bridges and 3,000 clean water sources, he noted that the TNI is developing infrastructure tailored to the actual needs of the people, following field surveys informed by reports from the media.

“Our target is to have 5,000 bridges completed by the end of the year. I am now more optimistic after identifying obstacles in planning,” Simanjuntak said, noting that different geographical conditions require different construction approaches.

As an example, he cited the deployment of two vessels to support the construction of four bridges in remote areas of Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara.

He then emphasized the force’s commitment to intensifying efforts to enhance clean water access for residents nationwide in collaboration with the central government.

Simanjuntak noted that the military had initiated the development of 3,232 safe water facilities since January 2026, of which 3,000 had been completed.

The TNI is determined to raise that number to 6,000 by the end of the year in response to persistent inadequate access to clean water in many parts of the country, he added.

He also underscored the importance of public participation, calling on local communities to actively support the development of the facilities.

“I can confirm that residents across Indonesia share a high spirit for cooperation,” he said.
