Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Navy’s Marine Corps deployed its Vampire MLRS, a 122-mm rocket launcher, during the Super Garuda Shield 2026 joint exercise in South Sumatra on Friday, September 4.
The live-fire exercise was held at the Baturaja Combat Training Center in South Sumatra, according to a Marine Corps statement received in Jakarta on Saturday.
The exercise tested both the weapon system’s capabilities and the skills of the personnel operating it.
Other countries participating in Super Garuda Shield 2026 also displayed rocket-launching systems, including the US M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket System, or HIMARS.
The Marine Corps said the entire exercise was completed successfully without any incidents.
The exercise is expected to improve personnel’s proficiency in operating weapons systems and strengthen ties among military personnel from participating countries.
Super Garuda Shield 2026 involves 4,743 personnel from 21 countries, who are in Indonesia to test operational readiness, defense diplomacy and capabilities to address various security challenges.
Indonesian Military Chief General Agus Subiyanto said Super Garuda Shield is an annual exercise held across Indonesia from August 31 to September 11, 2026.
“Super Garuda Shield is held every year in Indonesia. Twenty-one countries are participating this year, with 4,743 personnel taking part in 12 training activities,” Agus said in Bandung, West Java, on Monday, August 31.
The 21 participants are Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei Darussalam, India, Britain, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
