Indonesian police deploys 3,852 officers for FIFA ASEAN Cup matches

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s police deployed 3,852 joint personnel to secure two FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 matches at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium in Central Jakarta on Friday.

The matches pit Bangladesh against Malaysia at 4 p.m. local time, followed by hosts Indonesia against Singapore at 7:30 p.m.

“Security has been prepared for the entire series of matches today, from the arrival of teams and spectators, stadium entry and the matches to departures,” Jakarta Police Spokesman Budi Hermanto said.

Budi said the deployment was part of an integrated security plan under Operation Garuda Bakti 2026.

The personnel include commanders, staff and operational task forces covering preemptive and preventive security, route escorts and traffic control, law enforcement, tactical response, public relations and operational support.

Officers have been deployed at strategic locations inside and outside the stadium, screening zones, team hotels, training venues, airports and travel routes, as well as for close protection of teams and officials.

Beyond the Senayan area, police are also managing traffic around the GBK complex to maintain mobility for people carrying out activities near the venue.

Police urged spectators and supporters to cooperate during security checks, safeguard personal belongings, use public transportation and uphold sportsmanship to ensure the matches run smoothly.

“We invite all supporters and spectators to follow officers’ checks and instructions, maintain order and uphold sportsmanship. Use public transportation where possible and let’s keep the matches safe and comfortable,” Budi said.

Indonesia will begin its FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 campaign against Singapore.

The match gives the Garuda squad an opportunity to respond to previous poor results against the Lions at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium and in the ASEAN Football Federation Championship in August.

Indonesia is scheduled to host Singapore in the opening group-stage match of the FIFA ASEAN Cup 2026 at Gelora Bung Karno Stadium on Friday (Sept. 25) at 8 p.m. local time.
