Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR) has received the government’s list of proposed revisions to an asset forfeiture bill and will begin substantive discussions, with lawmakers targeting passage in November 2026.

House Commission III Chairman Habiburokhman said the bill could now be discussed with the government and passed in accordance with applicable laws. Deputy Law Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej submitted the document.

“This meeting marks an early sign of our commitment to reforming the law enforcement system through regulations governing the forfeiture of assets linked to criminal offenses,” Habiburokhman said at the parliamentary complex in Jakarta on Thursday.

Following the handover, Commission III planned to convene a working committee meeting on Thursday to discuss the proposed revisions and the bill’s substance.

“Our next meeting is at 1:30 p.m. We will immediately discuss the proposed revisions,” Habiburokhman said.

He said lawmakers aimed to enact the bill in November 2026, ahead of the previous target date of Dec. 15, 2026.

Deputy Law Minister Edward Omar Sharif Hiariej, also known as Eddy Hiariej, said the bill originated as a House legislative initiative and was submitted to the president through a letter dated Oct. 6, 2026.

The letter, numbered T/13900/LG.01.01/10/2026, was signed by the House speaker, he said.

The government considers economically motivated organized crimes, including corruption, money laundering, narcotics trafficking and tax crimes, threats to national development, public finances and the economy.

“The government welcomes the opportunity for comprehensive discussions with the House in accordance with legislative procedures. Its detailed position on the bill will be presented in the list of proposed revisions,” Eddy said.
