Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Defense Forces (TNI) officers in the United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) have completed their assignment to repair the runway at Mavivi Airport in the country.

According to the TNI Information Center’s press release on Friday, the activity, carried out by Indonesian officers in MONUSCO’s Kizi TNI Konga XX-W Task Force, is intended to facilitate residents’ daily lives and UN missions in Mavivi, North Kivu province.

“Improvement in airport infrastructure is expected to facilitate people’s mobility, distribution of basic needs and humanitarian assistance, and open access to remote areas,” the task force commander, Lieutenant Colonel I Made Dwi Bagus Yudistira, stated.

The improvement work was started on October 12 and completed last Wednesday (November 4), he said, adding that the process proceeded smoothly without any hindrances until its conclusion.

With the airport works completed, Yudistira expressed hope that residents of Mavivi would feel safer, enjoy improved economic conditions, and benefit from greater economic growth and overall well-being.

“Our works also reflected Indonesia’s commitment in military diplomacy and active contribution for peace and the well-being of the people throughout the world,” he added.

Established in 2010, MONUSCO is mandated to protect civilians, support the Congolese government in stabilizing conflict-affected areas, and assist in efforts to disarm armed groups, while also supporting humanitarian assistance and the promotion of human rights, according to the UN.

The UN Security Council agreed to extend MONUSCO’s mandate until Dec. 20, 2026.

Indonesia continued its participation in MONUSCO by deploying the latest batch of the Garuda Contingent and auxiliary personnel to the mission in June 2025.

The deployment is expected to contribute to stability and infrastructure development in DR Congo, while reaffirming Indonesia’s commitment to maintaining global peace through UN peacekeeping missions.
