Jakarta (ANTARA) – Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said the newly operational Jakarta Light Rail Transit (LRT) Kelapa Gading-Manggarai line has significantly strengthened the integration of public transportation modes across the capital.
President Prabowo Subianto officially inaugurated the line’s operation in Jakarta on Wednesday (September 16), accompanied by Transportation Minister Dudy Purwagandhi and Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung.
“The presence of this service not only adds public transportation options for the public but also strengthens intermodal integration in Jakarta,” Dudy said.
President Prabowo expressed his appreciation to all stakeholders involved in completing the project, highlighting Manggarai’s transformation into a major transit interchange.
“Five or six years ago, who would have thought we would have an integrated transportation system like the one in Manggarai?” Prabowo said, noting that the area now seamlessly connects the LRT, KRL Commuter Line, TransJakarta, TransJabodetabek, and the Airport Train.
The Jakarta LRT Phase 1B extension spans 12.2 kilometers and serves 11 stations: Kelapa Gading, Boulevard Utara, Boulevard Selatan, Pulomas, Equestrian, Velodrome, Rawamangun, Pramuka, Matraman, Proklamasi, and Manggarai.
The complete journey from Kelapa Gading to Manggarai takes approximately 28 minutes.
Dudy emphasized that urban transport development must remain focused on connectivity to provide safe, comfortable, and efficient journeys while reducing reliance on private vehicles.
“The transportation hubs we are building constitute an integrated public transportation ecosystem. It must become increasingly easy for the public to transfer from one mode of transport to another,” Dudy said.
Following the opening of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai line, the Jakarta Provincial Government plans to extend the line by approximately two kilometers to Dukuh Atas.
Construction of the extension is scheduled to begin in 2027, with operations targeted for 2028.
