Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung on Monday confirmed the 100 percent completion of the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai section of Jakarta LRT, with President Prabowo Subianto invited to inaugurate the new track.
“We observed and received reports that, in general, the construction of the LRT’s rail track and its elevated line has completed 100 percent,” Anung stated after inspecting the completed system at Manggarai LRT Station with province officials.
The governor added that a trial of the new system is underway by the Transportation Ministry.
Anung disclosed that the provincial authority has proposed to President Prabowo to inaugurate the new section of LRT Jakarta on Wednesday, August 26.
However, the final date is subject to the president’s discretion, as he is presiding over operations to control forest fires in Kalimantan and Sumatra and mitigate earthquake effects in East Nusa Tenggara.
Meanwhile, the governor said that the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai section of the Jakarta LRT is expected to serve up to 80,000 passengers daily in the first phase of its operation.
The ridership number may increase if the route is extended to Dukuh Atas, the terminus of LRT Jabodebek that connects Jakarta with Depok and Bekasi in West Java.
As the Kelapa Gading-Manggarai section is operational, the provincial authority will continue the LRT Jakarta development to the next phase.
“We will continue with the development of the Velodrome-Whoosh Station and the Kelapa Gading-JIS sections,” Anung said, referring to the Halim Station of Jakarta-Bandung HSR and the Jakarta International Stadium, respectively.
Upon the completion of all the planned lines, the LRT Jakarta system is expected to be the backbone of public transport in the province, connecting East Jakarta, North Jakarta, South Jakarta, and Central Jakarta, he remarked.
