Jakarta (ANTARA) – Jakarta police have arrested three suspects and seized 18.4 kilograms of methamphetamine and 10,508 ecstasy tablets in a drug operation in Bekasi, West Java.
Jakarta Central Police Chief Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said the seizure was part of efforts to curb illicit drug trafficking.
“We will continue targeting drug-trafficking networks while urging the public to help protect their communities from the threat of drugs,” Reynold said in a written statement on Friday.
The case began with information from the public about suspected drug trafficking in Bekasi on Monday (September 7), Reynold said.
Police then arrested AR, 24, on Jalan Boulevard Timur in North Bekasi.
After examining AR’s cellphone, police obtained information about a drug stash at a rented house in Bintara, West Bekasi.
Police found 18,443 grams of methamphetamine, 9,458 blue ecstasy tablets, 750 pink tablets, 300 yellow tablets, and 50 cartridges containing a liquid suspected to be etomidate.
Police subsequently arrested two other suspects, identified as IAY, 25, and AB, 26.
During questioning, AR told police he obtained the drugs from a person identified as Y, who is now on the wanted list.
AR allegedly acted as an intermediary, while IAY and AB helped deliver the drugs to buyers.
Jakarta Central Police Narcotics Unit Chief Wisnu S. Kuncoro said investigators were developing the case to identify the supplier and others allegedly involved.
The three suspects are being investigated under Article 114(2), or alternatively Article 119(2), of the 2009 Narcotics Law and other applicable criminal provisions.
“We are continuing to investigate the network above them. The case will not stop with the three suspects, as investigators are still probing the supplier and others involved,” Wisnu said.
