Jokowi shows his diplomas in court amid authenticity row

Former President Joko Widodo presented his original academic diplomas during the defamation trial concerning allegations of diploma forgery involving defendants Roy Suryo here on Thursday.

As the prosecutor brought the diploma, which served as evidence for the case, to the judges of East Jakarta District Court, Jokowi asked for permission to show the diplomas to the public.

“Your Honour, I seek the court’s permission to present my diplomas to the public, as I previously promised to show them my elementary, junior high, senior high, and undergraduate diplomas,” Jokowi said as a witness in the case.

The presiding judges granted his request. Jokowi then approached the judges and presented his original academic diplomas one by one, allowing members of the public attending the trial to view them before returning to the witness stand.

As requested by the prosecutors, Jokowi had presented his academic background to the judges.

Jokowi said he attended State Primary School 111, State Junior High School 1, and State Senior High School 6, all in Surakarta.

He also confirmed pursued his undergraduate studies at the Faculty of Forestry at Gadjah Mada University in Yogyakarta, where he graduated.

The former president was accompanied by his two younger children, Kahiyang Ayu and Kaesang Pangarep, for Thursday’s trial.

He was scheduled to testify in two separate trials, the morning session involving defendant Roy Suryo and the afternoon session involving defendant Tifauzia Tyassuma.

Former minister Roy Suryo and health activist Tifauzia Tyassuma, popularly known as Dokter Tifa, were facing defamation and slander accusations after questioning the authenticity of Jokowi’s undergraduate diploma.

Suryo and Tifa were named suspects in November 2025 and had been arrested by the police on June 19, before being released shortly.

Regarding the diploma case, Jokowi had responded to a police summons and personally attended the questioning at the police headquarters in Jakarta in May 2025.

During the questioning, Jokowi addressed disputes regarding the authenticity of his undergraduate diploma to police investigators. He also pledged to present the original diploma if requested later.
