Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Olympic Committee (KOI) is enhancing its partnership with the Asian Sepak Takraw Federation (ASTAF) to drive the progress of Indonesian sepak takraw on the international stage.
“Sepak takraw is a sport with a strong tradition and proud achievements for Indonesia,” KOI Chairman Raja Sapta Oktohari said in a statement on Saturday.
The enhanced collaboration was finalized during a meeting between Oktohari and ASTAF President Datuk Abdul Halim Kader on the sidelines of the sepak takraw events at the 2026 Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games.
Oktohari noted that the discussions focused on elevating athlete performance and reinforcing Indonesia’s standing with international sports federations.
Beyond competitive success, Oktohari emphasized that developing the sport is vital for strengthening the national sports ecosystem and deepening global ties.
He added that his presence at the Asian Games venue directly underscored his support for competing national athletes.
“We are not just building achievements for one match or one Asian Games. We want to build a sustainable ecosystem where athletes receive robust support, federations grow stronger, and international relations are well maintained,” Oktohari explained.
Echoing this sentiment, ASTAF President Datuk Abdul Halim Kader praised Indonesia’s commitment to the sport’s development and lauded recent improvements in national sports governance, KOI statement said.
He specifically commended Indonesian Sepak Takraw Association (PSTI) Chairman Surianto for driving positive momentum and strengthening ties between PSTI, ASTAF, and the broader global community.
Looking ahead, Indonesia is set to host the 2027 Sepak Takraw World Championship in Makassar, South Sulawesi—a marquee event expected to further cement the nation’s role in the global development of the sport.
