Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) has summoned an immigration official as a witness in an alleged extortion case involving residence permits for foreign nationals.

“KPK has scheduled an examination of WRM, an official with the Directorate of Residence Permits and Immigration Status at the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections,” KPK Spokesperson Budi Prasetyo told reporters in Jakarta on Thursday.

KPK previously conducted a sting operation over alleged corruption involving the processing of residence permits for foreign nationals.

During the operation, Silmy Karim, who was then deputy minister of immigration and corrections, turned himself in to the KPK.

On June 4, 2026, KPK named eight people suspects in an alleged extortion case involving foreign nationals’ residence permits from 2022 to 2026.

The case involved the former Ministry of Law and Human Rights, whose immigration functions were later transferred to the Ministry of Immigration and Corrections.

Besides Silmy, who served as immigration director general from 2023 to 2024, KPK named Saffar Muhammad Godam, acting immigration director general from 2024 to 2025, as a suspect.

The six other suspects are West Java immigration office head Jaya Saputra, West Jakarta immigration office head Ronald Arman Abdullah, and immigration officials Tessar Bayu Setyaji, Bagus Bramantyo, Juniadi Sri Priambudi, and Gusti Benardiansyah.

KPK suspects the defendants obtained about 145.5 billion rupiah (US$8.27 million) through the alleged extortion scheme between 2022 and 2026.
