Palu, Central Sulawesi (ANTARA) – The Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency has projected the La Nina phenomenon, which started in November 2021, to end in June 2022.
“We will continue to update, and after monitoring, it is forecast to degrade in June 2022,” a weather forecaster from the Mutiara Sis Al Jufrie Meteorological Station in Palu, Ambinari Rachmi Putri, stated on Wednesday.
Putri noted that some areas in Central Sulawesi were at risk from La Nina that could cause bad weather due to increased rainfall.
The areas at risk were Palu City, as well as the districts of North Morowali, Tojo Una-una, Sigi, Donggala, Toli-toli, and Buol.
“There is a risk of bad weather occurring, so people must remain cautious in case of rains of moderate to heavy intensity along with strong winds,” she remarked.
Putri emphasized that people should be aware of floods and landslides caused by bad weather.
“There are disaster-prone areas, such as Sigi District, and (people living in) mountainous areas in Parigi Moutong must be aware,” she remarked.
La Nina phenomenon occurred in Central Sulawesi since November 2021 and is forecast to end in February 2022. The Meteorological Station at the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency stated that La Nina phenomenon would grow weaker until June 2022.

Last year, La Nina had occurred from September 2020 to March 2021, and the impact was felt once in November 2020.
“This year, impact of the La Nina phenomenon could be sensed in Palu City. Earlier, Palu’s hot weather turned cloudy and it often rained,” she remarked.
The weather forecaster noted that the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency will continue to issue early warnings and provide latest information on the weather condition in Central Sulawesi.
“People can (be) updated (of) the weather, and we are optimistic that this La Nina phenomenon would not cause bad weather and disasters in Central Sulawesi,” she said.
