Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian lawmaker Adang Daradjatun has called on police to conduct a transparent investigation into the discovery of hundreds of weapons at a private school in South Jakarta.
Daradjatun, a member of parliament’s Commission III, which oversees law enforcement, said all facts surrounding the case must be uncovered to provide legal certainty and prevent speculation among the public.
“Police must investigate this matter professionally, objectively, and transparently. All facts must be clearly disclosed, including the ownership status, legality, and reasons why the items were stored on school grounds,” Daradjatun said in a statement on Saturday.
He said the presence of the items at an educational institution was a serious matter that needed to be publicly explained, regardless of their ownership.
Daradjatun, a former deputy chief of the Indonesian National Police, also urged investigators to conduct the probe objectively and ensure that it was not influenced by an alleged internal dispute that reportedly led to the case being uncovered.
“The law enforcement process must not be influenced by public opinion or conflicts between the parties involved. Investigators should work based on facts and evidence so that the outcome provides legal certainty and a sense of justice for all parties,” he said.
He also called for tighter oversight of assets and items requiring special permits at educational institutions to prevent public concern.
South Jakarta police earlier confirmed the discovery of firearms and airsoft guns in a room belonging to a private school foundation in Pondok Pinang, South Jakarta.
The room, formerly used by the foundation’s head, identified by the initials IWD, contained 995 weapons, ammunition, weapon accessories, bullet-making equipment, pornographic VCDs, and items suspected to be methamphetamine and marijuana.
