Lawmaker urges Indonesian police chief to intensify drug crackdown

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Habiburokhman, chairman of Commission III of Indonesia’s House of Representatives (DPR), urged National Police Chief Gen. Suyudi Ario Seto to sustain his aggressive crackdown on drug crimes and dismantle trafficking networks early in his tenure.

He praised Suyudi’s direct involvement in field operations, describing it as an outstanding achievement and expressing his highest appreciation for the police chief.

“We urge the police to maintain this full-throttle pace, dismantle drug networks down to their roots and bring down the major kingpins,” Habiburokhman said in a written statement received in Jakarta on Sunday.

He said recent police operations went beyond law enforcement and arrests, constituting a humanitarian mission to save millions of Indonesians, particularly young people, from ruin.

He said the campaign targeted the drug trade from production to distribution, citing a drug factory uncovered in Pidie, Aceh, illegal tramadol plants operating across provincial borders, and raids on notorious drug hotspots.

Suyudi’s decision to lead major operations personally sent a strong message that the state was present and would not be defeated by drug syndicates, Habiburokhman said.

“This also motivates police across the country to act with the same urgency and speed,” he said.
