Jakarta (ANTARA) – The 2026 Pertamina Grand Prix of Indonesia set a new record high attendance, drawing a total of 157,875 spectators over its three-day run at the Mandalika Circuit in Central Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara.

The figure represents the highest attendance recorded since the Mandalika Circuit made its debut on the MotoGP calendar in 2022.

Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir commended all parties involved in organizing the 2026 Indonesian Grand Prix, hailing the record turnout as a shared achievement worth celebrating.

“Extraordinary! A record broken—157,000 spectators! Let’s hear a round of applause for everyone!” Erick stated in an official statement released Sunday (October 11).

According to official figures released by race promoter Dorna Sports, spectator numbers climbed continuously throughout the weekend.

A total of 39,510 spectators attended the circuit on Friday (October 9), rising to 53,296 on Saturday (October 10), before reaching a peak of 65,069 on race day on Sunday.

The total three-day attendance of 157,875 spectators shows a marked increase compared to the 2025 Mandalika MotoGP, which recorded 140,324 spectators.

This year’s turnout also surpassed previous editions, including 2024 (121,252 spectators), 2023 (102,929 spectators), and the inaugural 2022 event (102,801 spectators).

Public enthusiasm was further boosted by the presence of Indonesian riders Veda Ega Pratama and Mario Aji, who served as a major attraction for local motorcycling fans.

Additionally, spectators were treated to a tense battle for the 2026 MotoGP world championship between Marc Marquez and Jorge Martin.

Following the Mandalika round, Jorge Martin leads the rider standings with 355 points, holding a narrow two-point margin over Marc Marquez in second place with 353 points.

Erick emphasized that the record-breaking attendance marks a crucial milestone for the event, demonstrating strong public interest and bolstering Indonesia’s reputation as a host for international sports events.

He added that a comprehensive evaluation report of the 2026 event will be submitted to President Prabowo Subianto to serve as a basis for future policy considerations.

While Erick expressed strong support for retaining the Grand Prix, any formal extension of the Mandalika circuit’s MotoGP contract remains subject to presidential approval.

“As for the contract extension, we will await the President’s decision. Hopefully, he will be the one to announce it,” Erick remarked, while reaffirming his full support for keeping MotoGP in Mandalika.
