Jakarta (ANTARA) – Former Indonesian President Megawati Soekarnoputri is scheduled to hold talks on Friday in Jakarta with Timor-Leste President José Ramos-Horta and Nobel and Turing Award laureates.
Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) Secretary-General Hasto Kristiyanto said the meeting at the Megawati Institute would discuss developments in science and technology and their impact on people and humanity.
Megawati, Ramos-Horta and several Nobel and Turing Award laureates are scheduled to share their views at the meeting, he said, adding that Megawati will be accompanied by her two children, M. Prananda Prabowo and Puan Maharani.
“Megawati will sit with President Ramos-Horta, Prananda and Puan,” Hasto said.
Participants also include Timor-Leste Ambassador Roberto Sarmento de Oliveira Soares, 1997 Nobel economics laureate Robert C. Merton and his wife, Azita Merton, and BRIN Steering Board member Bambang Kesowo.
The dialogue will be moderated by Megawati Institute Executive Director Hilmar Farid in a roundtable discussion format.
Hasto said the delegation comprises participants in the Science for Development Summit 2026, who previously attended meetings in Dili, Timor-Leste.
Overall, the meeting is scheduled to include 10 Nobel laureates, including Ramos-Horta, one representative of a Nobel-winning organization and four Turing Award laureates.
“They recently spoke at the Science for Development Summit 2026 in Dili. President Ramos-Horta is bringing the delegation to meet Megawati and leaders of Indonesia’s national research agency,” Hasto said.
The Science for Development Summit 2026 was held in Dili on August 24-25, bringing together Nobel and Turing Award laureates, scientists, researchers, academics, innovators and world leaders.
The forum discussed using science and technology for development in areas including health, climate resilience, agriculture, education, digital transformation and the economy.
Hasto said Megawati had paid particular attention to preparations and inspected the Megawati Institute office on Thursday.
“We hope today’s agenda runs smoothly and provides an opportunity to exchange ideas on scientific developments and current issues,” he said, describing the participants as leading figures in their fields.
