Denpasar, Bali (ANTARA) – Higher Education, Science, and Technology Minister Brian Yuliarto pushed for stronger collaboration between Indonesia’s universities, research institutions, and industry and China through Tsinghua University, to accelerate innovation and deliver solutions relevant to public needs.
He made the remarks at the China Southeast Asia Forum on Higher Education and Industry Cooperation 2026, held at the Kura-Kura Bali Special Economic Zone (KEK) here on Sunday.
According to him, cooperation between universities and industry is important to bring research results closer to practical needs while accelerating the application of innovation.
“Collaboration between industry and universities can bring research closer to practical needs, accelerate innovation, and prepare the young generation with the knowledge and skills to contribute in a rapidly changing world,” Yuliarto said in his speech.
He said the ministry greatly values partnerships capable of translating knowledge and research results into meaningful solutions for society and contributing to national and regional development.
Yuliarto assessed that Tsinghua University has a strong global reputation in research, innovation, and technological advancement.
Therefore, Indonesia is opening opportunities for national universities and research institutions to deepen their engagement with Tsinghua.
The cooperation, he said, can be realized through joint research, academic exchanges, talent development, and degree and research programs as needed.
“We hope this forum opens up more opportunities to develop such partnerships among our countries,” he added.
He also viewed the presence of the Tsinghua Southeast Asia Center in Bali as an important part of building a collaboration ecosystem among Indonesia, China, Southeast Asia, and the international community.
The center was officially launched in Bali in November 2022, coinciding with the Group of 20 (G20) Summit in Bali.
Since then, the center has served as a platform for academic exchange, talent development, and cooperation between Tsinghua University and Indonesia and the Southeast Asia region.
According to him, the cooperation ecosystem formed at the Kura-Kura Bali KEK, involving universities, government, industry, and other partners, serves as a foundation for building practical and sustainable cooperation.
He affirmed that Indonesia is committed to strengthening international partnerships that support research excellence, innovation, human resource development, and sustainable development.
