Minister urges e-commerce platforms to support MSMEs at Harbolnas

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Community Empowerment Abdul Muhaimin Iskandar urged e-commerce platforms to help market products from government-assisted micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) during the 2026 National Online Shopping Day (Harbolnas).

“We need to make the most of Harbolnas as a momentum to expand the market for MSME products. We cannot afford to let MSMEs that have received government support be left without access to digital platforms,” he said in Jakarta on Thursday.

Iskandar made the statement while hosting representatives of the Indonesian E-Commerce Association (idEA) and several digital platform operators at his office.

He highlighted the target for Harbolnas to generate Rp40 trillion (around US$2.2 billion) in transactions, noting that expanding opportunities for MSMEs is part of community empowerment.

The minister also called for stronger synergy between the government, business associations, and digital platforms to broaden MSMEs’ market access and increase their participation in capacity-building programs.

In that regard, Iskandar encouraged closer government-business collaboration to market products from MSMEs participating in programs run by institutions under his coordination, including the Ministry of MSMEs, the Ministry of Cooperatives, the Ministry of Villages, and the Ministry for the Protection of Indonesian Migrant Workers.

Deputy Chairperson of idEA Syarif Hidayatullah noted that transactions during the 2025 Harbolnas reached Rp36.4 trillion (approx. US$2 billion), exceeding the target of around Rp34 trillion.

The value grew by 17 percent from the previous year, while transactions involving local products stood at Rp16.6 trillion, accounting for around 45.6 percent of the total.

“The digital ecosystem should not fixate on transaction value alone; it should create broader economic opportunities for people,” he said, stressing the importance of community empowerment.

To that end, he advocated three strategies: expanding capacity-building programs for MSMEs, reaching out to universities to help nurture young entrepreneurs, and organizing promotional events and bazaars featuring local products.

The 2026 Harbolnas is scheduled to run from Dec. 10 to 16.
