Jakarta (ANTARA) – State-Owned Enterprises Minister Erick Thohir encouraged the youth to become the driving force of the Indonesian economy.

To this end, they must gear up themselves with relevant education and skills necessary in the midst of an era of digital disruption, he stated, as quoted from his official Instagram account @erickthohir, here on Wednesday.

Minister Thohir opined that being a digital native generation alone was not sufficient. The youth should have good work ethics, commitment, and an extensive network.

The minister also challenged them to create job opportunities, including through digital entrepreneurship.

State-owned enterprises work together in order to facilitate new and more entrepreneurs, especially in the digital sector. They work on infrastructure, funding, and market access, among others.

Thohir also expects the younger generation to continue to hone its abilities, given the ease with which it can currently obtain education through online means.

“I really hope that our youth, wherever you are, would improve its capabilities in this rapidly changing era. And you are the champions,” he affirmed.

Thohir had noted that the younger generation played an important part in the development of Indonesia.

The minister stated that Indonesia was forecast to become the fourth-largest country in the world, in terms of economic power. He opined that this projection was not merely a dream if the youth could prepare accordingly.

He reminded the youth to seize the opportunity. In the past, toll roads, airports, ports, and others were built. In the future, digital infrastructure, data centers, wifi, fiber optics, and towers for 5G will be built instead.
