Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Youth and Sports Ministry said it is targeting to have an annual sports event calendar starting in 2027 to align all sporting events in Indonesia.
“Our big goal in 2027, in line with the minister’s instruction (Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir), is that we will create a calendar of events in Indonesia,” Deputy for Sports Industry Development at the ministry, Teuku Arlan Perkasa Lukman, said here on Thursday.
At a press conference on the Jakarta Hybrid Race, he explained that the sports event calendar will contain a neatly arranged list of sporting activities or competitions, complete with the venue and timing of each event throughout the year.
This will thus make it easier for athletes, spectators, and the government to plan schedules and promotions, while also driving the economy.
Lukman explained that Indonesia is a country with a vast territory, stretching from Aceh to Papua, and most regions serve as venues for major events, so proper organization is needed.
Therefore, the creation of a national sports event calendar is part of the main target to ensure that all events run in an orderly manner.
He added that the ministry keeps forging partnerships to stage various events, including with private sector players it views as having a ready ecosystem.
He cited the ministry’s cooperation with 20FIT to hold the Jakarta Hybrid Race on September 13-16, as part of a series of activities under the Indonesia Sport Summit (ISS) 2026.
Lukman expressed hope that the fitness event can be held as a series so that its ecosystem can grow in various regions across Indonesia.
“So, we are preparing the arrangements because the event preparations cannot stand alone,” he said.
