Makassar (ANTARA) – The Education, Culture, Research, and Technology Ministry has asked the Higher Education Organizing Alliance (Apperti) to focus on encouraging the quality of education so as to produce graduates needed by the world of work.

Higher education is the main channel for meeting the needs of the community, director general of higher education at the ministry, Prof. Nizam, DIC, PhD., said at the virtual inauguration of the 2022-2026 Apperti Center Management in Makassar on Saturday.

“Universities must ensure that students really gain competence and added value so that they can easily (get employment),” he added.

He urged universities to not taint the honor of academia by indulging in actions that are not in accordance with the rules, for instance, issuing diplomas recklessly, circumventing the educational process, and manipulating the lists of students, among others, which, in the end, would harm the campuses themselves.

“Therefore, we encourage Apperti to continue to maintain the quality of education, provide competence and added value so as to (create) graduates that meet the needs,” he said.

Nizam also underlined the important role of universities in appealing to graduates of high school and its equivalent and the extent to which they provide benefits to society, including providing higher education of good quality that is relevant to the needs of the times.

“The interest of high school, vocational school, or Islamic high school graduates in enrolling in one of the universities is certainly proportional to the investment made by (campus owners),” he added.
