Ministry forms team to speed up permanent Sekolah Rakyat buildings

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Social Affairs Ministry has formed the Sekolah Rakyat (People’s School) Development Acceleration Team (TP2SR) as an ad hoc team to oversee the accelerated construction of permanent Sekolah Rakyat buildings.

The TP2SR formation follows a mandate from Social Affairs Minister Saifullah Yusuf to oversee the construction of permanent Sekolah Rakyat buildings at pilot locations, as 61 sites have not been fully accommodated within the 100-site construction quota from the Public Works Ministry due to land administrative issues.

“If we cannot ensure construction happens this year, there is a very high chance these schools will have to close next year because the buildings will no longer be sufficient,” Deputy Minister of Social Affairs Agus Jabo Priyono said in a statement here on Friday.

He said dozens of pilot Sekolah Rakyat locations have become an urgent priority as they are currently operating using temporary facilities projected to last no more than a year.

According to him, if permanent buildings are not completed this year, dozens of pilot schools risk closure as they will no longer be able to accommodate new students.

As a follow-up measure, the ministry’s TP2SR will hold an evaluation desk on August 12, 2026. The event will bring together 57 regional governments overseeing the 61 pilot Sekolah Rakyat sites.

“Our task is to make sure these sites already have land preparation in place. Please collect data and identify the land status, who has submitted proposals, what the issues are, and which ministries are involved. That identification must already be in place,” he said.

Priyono said the team was formed to provide assistance, control, and ongoing monitoring of Sekolah Rakyat construction progress.

The team will work to prepare data, coordinate the resolution of issues in the regions, and provide assistance until the construction process begins.

Sekolah Rakyat is a government priority program offering free, quality education to children from the lowest-income families under the National Integrated Socio-Economic Data (DTSEN).

Sekolah Rakyat also eases financial burdens for families, with parents no longer paying school costs and gaining access to free health checks under the program.

A number of Sekolah Rakyat students have been guaranteed both employment and higher education scholarships, with the government facilitating job placements once they graduate.
