Ministry promotes six tourism villages in educational tourism push

Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is promoting six tourism villages as prime destinations for educational trips (edutrips) for schools, bridging classroom curricula with educational tourism.

“By marketing directly to school decision-makers, we hope to connect curriculum requirements with the educational experiences offered by these tourism villages,” the ministry’s Deputy for Marketing, Ni Made Ayu Marthini, said in an official statement confirmed on Thursday.

The six destinations include Terong Creative Tourism Village (Belitung, Bangka Belitung Islands), Krebet Tourism Village (Bantul, Yogyakarta), Les Tourism Village (Buleleng, Bali), Sudaji Tourism Village (Buleleng, Bali), Bugisan Tourism Village (Klaten, Central Java), and Selamanik Tourism Village (Ciamis, West Java).

The promotion aims to introduce the diversity of tourism villages not just as vacation spots, but as open-air classrooms where students can experience local culture, nature, the environment, and community life firsthand.

Marthini said aligning the potential of tourism villages with school curricula is key to making educational tourism more competitive.

The ministry has established training and mentoring programs to prepare these villages for school visits.

Efforts focus on core aspects, particularly strengthening curriculum integration and experiential tourism. Village managers are encouraged to offer hands-on learning packages linked to subjects like science, culture, social studies, ecology, and entrepreneurship.

Under this approach, students can enjoy leisure travel while learning directly from the local environment, culture, economy, and community life.

Safety standards are another priority, covering safety procedures, risk management, and emergency readiness tailored to student groups.

The Ministry of Tourism is also encouraging transparent pricing, including special rates for school groups and cashless payment options, to make planning educational trips easier for schools.

“Promoting educational tourism and ensuring destinations meet quality standards are the two main pillars of developing educational trips in tourism villages. This approach enables tourism villages to serve as trusted learning partners for educational institutions,” she said.
