Ministry to facilitate training, employment for drug abuse survivors

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Manpower Ministry is preparing training and employment opportunities for people who have completed drug rehabilitation, aiming to help them become productive and economically independent.

“Recovery is not the end of the process. After rehabilitation, they need opportunities to return to work, be productive, and live independently,” Manpower Minister Yassierli said Wednesday.

The initiative is part of cooperation among the Manpower Ministry, National Narcotics Agency, Social Affairs Ministry and Health Ministry.

The agencies formalized the cooperation by signing a memorandum of understanding on rehabilitation and post-rehabilitation services for people affected by narcotics, psychotropic drugs and other addictive substances.

The agreement was signed Tuesday at the National Narcotics Agency’s Human Resources Development Center in Bogor, West Java.

Yassierli said all citizens should have equal access to decent jobs without discrimination.

He said rehabilitation should not be measured solely by physical and psychological recovery, adding that continued support is needed to help people rebuild their lives and confidence.

The ministry will provide competency-based training aligned with labor-market demand, preparing participants for jobs suited to their skills and interests.

For those seeking employment, the ministry can facilitate job placement by matching their skills with employers’ needs.

Those interested in entrepreneurship can receive training in technical skills, business knowledge and mentoring tailored to their ventures.

Yassierli said cross-sector cooperation would create more opportunities for people recovering from drug abuse to develop skills, find work or start businesses.

BNN Chief Suyudi Ario Seto said efforts ranging from drug prevention to eradication require cooperation among government agencies and other stakeholders.

“BNN cannot work alone in this matter. Collaboration and support from relevant ministries and agencies are crucial,” Seto said.
