Jakarta (ANTARA) – Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry ensured that requisite efforts were made to follow up and handle cases of abuse against students that occurred at the Modern Darussalam Islamic Boarding School Gontor, Ponorogo, East Java.

“The Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry monitors and coordinates in ensuring all forms of assistance needed by victims and their families,” the deputy for child special protection at the Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Ministry, Nahar, stated in a written statement here on Thursday.

The ministry regretted that such an incident occurred in a religious education institution that led to the death of AM, 17, a student, while two other people had to receive treatment.

Nahar said Women’s Empowerment and Child Protection Minister, Bintang Puspayoga, specifically requested for the case to be handled as best as possible, so that the victims could immediately have company during their physical, psychological, and legal recovery processes.

In response to the news of the perpetrators being expelled from the school in question, the ministry urged for the case to be investigated to the end, so that the victim AM gets justice.

“We hope that this case would continue to be investigated until clarity is found, and the victims, especially AM, get their rights and justice,” he remarked.

Nahar reminded parents to always monitor the teaching and learning process, although their children were studying in Islamic boarding schools.

“Parents can improve the quality of children’s interactions with parents, optimize child development, prevent children from deviant behavior, and also be able to detect abnormalities in children’s growth and development,” Nahar stated.

The ministry also compelled people, who experience or know of any form of violence, to immediately report it to their services, SAPA129 via 129 hotline or WhatsApp number of 08111-129-129, or report it to the local police.
