Banda Aceh (ANTARA) – The Manpower Ministry has organized a training on making fiber boats for the residents of Simeulue district to improve their entrepreneurial skills.
Head of the Simeulue Manpower and Transmigration Office, Kasirman, said that 16 people from different backgrounds are participating in the training.
“This training is financed by the Manpower Ministry. We are only the coordinator, the training is carried out by a job training center under the Simeulue Manpower and Transmigration Office,” he informed.
He said that the participants of the 30-day training program have come from 10 sub-districts of Simeulue district.
The training on making fiber boats is aimed at teaching the community to open their own boatbuilding businesses in the future.
“We expect that through this program, the participants can independently develop their business potential later on, so they can offer job opportunities on Simeulue Island,” Kasirman said.

Fiber boats are used by fishermen on Simeulue Island, he noted. Besides being more affordable, they are more durable compared to their wooden counterparts.
“Currently, many fishermen on Simeulue Island have switched from wooden boats to fiber boats. Thus, the manufacture of fiber boats needs to be (pursued),” he said.
Training instructor Anas Maulana said that the participants are being taught to make fiber boats from scratch. During the course of their training, participants are expected to complete building two to three fiber boats.
“We hope that after this training participants can open their own businesses. Moreover, the current market potential for fiber boats is quite promising because fishermen have grown even more interested (in them),” he said.
Simeulue district is the outermost island of Aceh province. It is in the Indian Ocean, which is about 180 nautical miles from the west coast of Sumatra Island.
