Mount Bromo tourism to reopen Aug 20 after forest fires: Official

Malang, East Java (ANTARA) – The Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) Office confirmed the reopening of tourism activities in the Mount Bromo area, East Java, on Thursday (August 20), following the handling of the recent forest and land fires.

According to the Head of the TNBTS Office, Rudijanta Tjahja Nugraha, the reopening of tourist access to Bromo was based on monitoring and evaluation of the area’s post-fire conditions.

“Considering the safety of visitors and staff, the Bromo area will reopen for tourism on Thursday,” he confirmed in a statement on Wednesday.

The decision is outlined in Announcement Letter Number: PG.19/T.8/TU/HMS.01.07/B/08/2026, issued on August 19, 2026.

His office informed that tickets can be booked starting this Wednesday through the official website, bromotenggersemeru.id, with a daily tourist quota of 2,752 people per day.

Earlier, all tourist entrance accesses in the Bromo area, including Cemorolawang in Probolinggo District, Wonokitri in Pasuruan District, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang District, and Senduro in Lumajang District, were temporarily closed due to escalating forest and land fires on August 8.

Nugraha said the reopening is subject to several conditions, including visitors’ compliance with regulations and instructions from field officers, as well as their commitment to maintaining cleanliness and environmental sustainability.

Visitors are prohibited from engaging in activities that could spark fires, including making campfires or discarding cigarette butts and other materials that could serve as ignition sources.

Tourists who spot smoke, embers, or other signs of fire are urged to immediately report them to officials.

Nugraha informed that the fire in the Mount Bromo area has been completely extinguished within 13 days of its outbreak.

“We thank all parties involved in the fire response, including officers from the Ministry of Forestry, the military, the police, the National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB), the Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), local governments, partners, volunteers, the community, and tourism service providers,” he concluded.
