Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesia’s Navy Marines and troops from partner countries conducted urban warfare drills in Lampung as part of Super Garuda Shield (SGS) 2026, testing combat tactics in complex environments.
The drills combined modern warfare strategies to improve marines’ agility, stealth and combat effectiveness in asymmetric and urban warfare scenarios, Indonesia’s military said Wednesday.
The exercises took place Tuesday, Sept. 8, at an infantry brigade facility in Lampung, during both daytime and nighttime operations to sharpen tactics in confined areas.
The Indonesian military said the urban warfare simulation was completed successfully without incident.
The specialized training is intended to improve operational coordination, strengthen participating forces’ combat capabilities and foster closer ties among national marine corps.
Super Garuda Shield 2026 involves 4,743 military personnel from 21 countries to test operational readiness, strengthen defense diplomacy and improve responses to regional security challenges.
Participants include Indonesia, the United States, Australia, the Netherlands, Brazil, Brunei, India, the United Kingdom, Italy, Japan, Germany, Cambodia, Canada, South Korea, Laos, New Zealand, France, Singapore, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam.
TNI Commander General Agus Subiyanto said the multiweek exercise includes 12 tactical training modules designed to strengthen operational readiness across diverse combat scenarios.
The exercise runs from Aug. 31 to Sept. 11, 2026, across several Indonesian locations, including Bandung, Jakarta, Lampung and Nunukan.
