Cikarang, West Java (ANTARA) – The National Data Center (PDN) is expected to strengthen digital-based governance (e-governance) to become more efficient, Communication and Informatics Minister Johnny G. Plate stated.

The construction of PDN could affect the state budget spending efficiency toward data centers and servers currently spread across Indonesia, he noted on the sidelines of the “National Data Center Construction Groundbreaking” event here, Wednesday.

According to Plate, within the government alone, there are currently, 2,700 data centers that cost significant sum of money every year.

“It is similar to the government application. There are more than 24 thousand government applications. Once this PDN (construction) is completed, we expect that it will be consolidated here,” he explained.

“The data center will be consolidated here, and government applications management will also be done here,” he remarked.

While one of the goals of the PDN is efficiency and integration, there are several major and important applications from the government that must be protected, including the PeduliLindungi application, he remarked.

However, data center planning should be prepared thoroughly, so that its implementation can be optimal.

“As a result, the applications will be more efficient and convenient, and the e-governance service will become better to support PAN-RB (Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform),” he stated.

Meanwhile, Plate’s ministry, along with representatives from the Ministry of Finance, French Embassy to Indonesia, and other related parties, conducted the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of PDN at GIIC Deltamas, here.

This project is financed 85 percent through the French government’s aid and 15 percent through pure state budget. The total contract value stood at 164.6 million euros, Plate noted.

Plate’s ministry plans to construct four Tier-IV global standard PDNs in the Greater Jakarta Area; Nongsa Digital Park Batam, Riau Islands; Labuan Bajo, East Nusa Tenggara.

The last PDN will be constructed in Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, to support the new government center.

“The technical specification is almost similar. We only need to duplicate the specification that exists here to be constructed in the three other locations that were mentioned,” he explained.

“However, it all depends on funding availability,” he added.
