Jakarta (ANTARA) – Nickel Industries Limited and Hasanuddin University (Universitas Hasanuddin/UNHAS) have welcomed the third cohort of recipients under their fully funded scholarship program, reaffirming a long-term commitment to developing future leaders from Morowali through higher education.
The program has now supported 30 local students since its launch in 2024.
Through the program, ten outstanding students in 2026 have been selected to receive full scholarships to pursue undergraduate studies at Hasanuddin University, according to a statement received in Jakarta on Tuesday.
This year, the recipients will study across a broad range of disciplines, including Mining Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Informatics, Geology, Psychology, Forestry, and Chinese Language. The expanded selection of study programs reflects the growing need for diverse skills and perspectives to support a modern, innovative, and sustainable mining industry.
Nickel Industries Managing Director Justin Werner congratulated the scholarship recipients and highlighted the importance of the company’s continued partnership with Hasanuddin University.
“We are proud to continue our partnership with Hasanuddin University, which has now entered its third year. I would also like to thank the students and their families for the dedication and perseverance that brought them to this point. We hope this scholarship helps open doors for these young talents to pursue their ambitions, complete their studies successfully, and one day contribute to the continued development of Morowali and its communities,” Werner said.
The scholarship program forms part of Nickel Industries’ long-term sustainability strategy to strengthen local human capital, increase access to higher education, and ensure communities surrounding its operations benefit from long-term economic development, he said.

Rector of Hasanuddin University, Prof. Jamaluddin Jompa, expressed appreciation for the ongoing collaboration and encouraged the students to maximise the opportunity they have been given.
“We highly value our partnership with Nickel Industries, which has helped talented young people from Morowali gain access to higher education. We encourage the scholarship recipients to make the most of this opportunity by strengthening both their academic capabilities and essential global skills, including English proficiency. We also hope this collaboration continues to grow through initiatives in research, innovation, and sustainability,” Jamaluddin said.
The scholarship recipients were selected through a transparent and competitive process managed by UNHAS. The selection process included administrative screening, Academic Potential Tests (TPA), and psychological assessments. The ten awardees were chosen based on their academic performance, potential, and personal character, ensuring they are well prepared for the challenges and opportunities of higher education.
Meanwhile, Chief Operating Officer of Nickel Industries, Tony Green, congratulated the students and encouraged them to seek support whenever needed throughout their academic journey.
“Congratulations on successfully completing a highly competitive selection process. As you begin this new chapter, stay focused, resilient, and determined. The road ahead will not always be easy, but it will be filled with opportunities for growth and achievement,” he said.
The scholarship program also supports Nickel Industries’ long-term commitment to Indonesia’s development goals, including the Golden Indonesia 2045 vision and the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those focused on quality education and reducing inequality.
